In addition to the numerous programs we work on at the Chamber for our members, there are several services that are available only to Chamber members.
- Chamber membership mailing list is available to members by purchasing printed labels for $150. (Non-members must pay the cost of $500.) Click here to download the Chamber membership mailing label agreement form.
- Free export counseling services at the Chamber through the Mass Export Center.
- Referral Services to “Members Only” and protection against unauthorized solicitations.
- Electricity Purchasing Program: All Chamber members need to know that between now and March 2005, you will have the opportunity to shop for electric power on the new deregulated electricity markets by choosing a competitive power supplier. It's called Restructuring. Restructuring is a term used for opening a market to competition, whose prices and practices were formerly fully regulated by government. In this case, the power supply portion of the electric industry in Massachusetts has been opened to competition.
Restructuring is designed to bring you choice, competitive prices and improved service by introducing competition into the electric industry. The changes to the electric industry are similar to what happened when long-distance telephone service was deregulated nearly fifteen years ago. Then, for the first time, customers were able to choose their long-distance company but they had no choice about who provided their local service. In the electric industry, you are now able to choose your competitive power supplier, but not your distribution company.
To make this process easier to understand, the New Bedford and Fall River Area Chambers of Commerce are working with SilentSherpa to help Chamber members make purchasing decisions regarding electricity. Energy choice is here, and along with it come the challenges of purchasing electricity for the consumer.
